  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened (for filling)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and pumpkin puree to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  8. Spread softened butter and brown sugar over the dough, then cut into squares.
  9. Stack the squares in a greased bundt pan, arranging them to resemble a pumpkin.
  10. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Let cool slightly before inverting onto a plate and serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter bread, add more sugar to the filling.
  • Can be served warm or at room temperature.
