Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and black food coloring.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Slowly add the boiling water to the batter, mixing until smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
