  • Crushed candy canes for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Divide the dough in half; add peppermint extract and red food coloring to one half.
  7. Roll out both doughs into ropes and twist them together to form a candy cane shape.
  8. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden.
  10. Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top while still warm.
