Classic Tomato Bruschetta

A simple and delicious Italian appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with a fresh tomato, basil, and garlic mixture.

1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided
4 medium ripe tomatoes, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
10 fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Brush each slice lightly with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Toast the bread in the oven for 4 to 5 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, sliced basil, salt, pepper, and remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Stir the tomato mixture gently to combine all ingredients well.
Remove the toasted bread from the oven and let cool slightly.
Spoon the tomato mixture evenly over each toasted bread slice.
Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp texture and fresh flavors.
