A comforting and hearty casserole combining tender chicken, savory stuffing, and melted cheese, perfect for a family dinner or holiday meal.
3 cups cooked chicken, shredded
1 package (6 ounces) herb seasoned stuffing mix
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup sour cream
1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine the herb seasoned stuffing mix and chicken broth. Stir until the stuffing is moistened and set aside for 5 minutes to absorb the broth.
In a separate bowl, mix together the sour cream, condensed cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt until smooth.
Add the shredded cooked chicken and chopped green onions to the stuffing mixture. Stir to combine.
Fold the sour cream and soup mixture into the stuffing and chicken mixture until evenly combined.
Transfer half of the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the layer.
Add the remaining stuffing and chicken mixture on top, spreading evenly.
Top with the remaining shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
Bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
