A hearty and comforting casserole combining savory ground beef sloppy joe filling with crispy tater tots baked to golden perfection. Perfect for a family dinner or potluck.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound ground beef
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 (32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 4-5 minutes.
Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well to combine.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sloppy joe mixture for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly in the bottom.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sloppy joe layer.
Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before serving.
