A hearty and flavorful steak sandwich made with tender grilled steak, sautéed onions, melted cheese, and fresh lettuce, all served on crusty bread for a satisfying meal.
2 slices of crusty sandwich bread
8 ounces of sirloin steak, about 1/2 inch thick
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 slices of cheddar cheese
1/2 cup fresh lettuce leaves
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
Season both sides of the sirloin steak with salt and black pepper.
Add olive oil to the hot pan and place the steak in the pan.
Cook the steak for 4 minutes on one side without moving it.
Flip the steak and cook for another 3 minutes for medium-rare doneness.
Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes.
In the same pan, add the sliced onions and sauté over medium heat until soft and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
While the onions cook, lightly toast the slices of bread until golden brown.
Thinly slice the rested steak against the grain.
Spread mayonnaise evenly on one side of each slice of toasted bread.
Layer the steak slices on one slice of bread, then top with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese slices, and fresh lettuce leaves.
Place the other slice of bread on top to complete the sandwich.
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.
