A moist and flavorful apple cake made with tender apple pie filling mixed into the batter, creating a deliciously sweet and spiced dessert perfect for any occasion.
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
1/2 cup sour cream
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or a 9×9-inch square baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
Fold in the apple pie filling and sour cream gently until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
Transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
