These chewy sugar cookies are soft, buttery, and sweet with a perfect chewy texture. They are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup whole milk
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture and beat until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop dough and roll into balls. Place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake in the preheated oven for 9-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
